Don’t miss the chance to grab tickets or sponsor this year’s Suds featuring Hidalgo. Last year’s Suds, Scenes and SIRE featuring Secretariat was tremendous fun and raised over $11,000 to support SIRE’s clients. See 2013 photos here. Consider investing in a sponsorship today to guarantee seating for you and your friends, seats are selling fast.

Hidalgo follows a story from the 1890s of a mustang and a down-and-out cowboy, Frank T. Hopkins, as they race across the desert in the legendary Ocean of Fire long-distance race.

Darolyn Butler poses with one of her endurance horsesNational and international endurance champion and SIRE supporter Darolyn Butler will tell her personal horse-human connection stories, how horses shape her life and improve the lives of SIRE’s clients. In her life as a horsewoman, Darolyn has shown quarter horses, competed in rodeos, won beauty pageants, trained Arab and Thoroughbred racehorses, and owned a horse-focused instructional video company. Over her 30-year and 30,000 mile career  as a competitive endurance rider, she has won several national championships, represented the United States in international competition, and has coached other national and international horse and rider competitors.

Darolyn also offers the public the opportunity to ride on some of the best endurance horses on the world at her Cypress Trails Equestrian Center. You may recognize the name from SIRE events, too, since Darolyn graciously donates gift certificates for many of our events.

When you watch Hidalgo, see if you can spot TJ, one of the 5 paint horses to play the title character. Viggo Mortensen (who bought TJ) described him,

“He’s got such a unique, strong personality. He’s a very small horse but very intelligent. For a stallion, very relaxed on the set. He just did uncanny things. His reactions were consistently appropriate, whether it was displaying jealousy or possessiveness or being the conscience or being like, ‘C’mon, let’s go’ or being annoyed. Do you know what I mean? His expressions were very vivid.”
