Volunteer Power!!
SIRE’s RideAThon is in two days. It’s a defining event for SIRE, as it embodies our mission better than any other singular thing we do.
The MISSION of SIRE is to improve the quality of life for people with disabilities through therapeutic horseback riding and related activities.
Outside of the actual therapeutic riding that goes on at all three SIRE sites every day of the week, servicing over 160 people with disabilities per week for an hour, RideAThon is what I picture when I think of SIRE. A beautiful ranch, more smiling faces than I can count, an assortment of fabulous horses, a solid mixture of friends in the English world with friends in the trail riding world.
And what makes it all possible? VOLUNTEERS! Without volunteers, SIRE wouldn’t be able to service all the riders mentioned above! Sidewalkers, Designated Horse People, Barn Buddies…where would we be without them? And without more volunteers, we wouldn’t have the resources for special events, task force committees, speakers for fairs and expos and community meetings. And without the countless others who volunteer their services at no charge, we would be lost without their support! At the conclusion of 2010, more than more than 250 active SIRE service volunteers provided 30,000 hours of time, valued at $640,000 using data provided by The Independent Sector. Wow!
For all of those who give so much in such an unselfish manner, we are thankful! We hope we get to meet as many of you as possible on Saturday at 7IL Trails.
