RUN FOR THE ROSES AND JOIN THE WINNING TRADITION OF SIRE, Houston’s Therapeutic Equestrian Centers
WHAT: A very special afternoon and evening as a salute to the Kentucky Derby and to the horses and riders of SIRE, Houston’s Therapeutic Equestrian Centers. On May 7th, we will celebrate SIRE’s winning tradition at the 2011 Boots and Bonnets Charity Gala! We will also honor Richard “Whitey” and Nancy White for their long-standing commitment and support. Honorary Chairman for the evening is Gary D. Owens, Chairman, President & CEO of OYO Geospace Corporation, and Event Co-Chairmen are Fred and Mona Arnold. Emcee for the evening is John Naber. Live Auctioneers are Maurice “Crash” Collins, “Outlaw Dave“ Smith, and “The Voice of the Astros” Bob Ford.
This year, for the first time, we will enjoy the gala at the Sam Houston Race Park where everyone will be treated to a simulcast of the Derby that may be followed by live horse racing. There will be all the trappings the “Run for the Roses” is noted for: bonnets, finery and juleps along with the live band Password, with delectable derby fare catered by Two Forks Catering. No SIRE gala would be complete without silent and live auction treasures; the 2011 Boots and Bonnets Charity Gala will be no exception! The success of this annual event assures the work of SIRE will continue for many years to come.
SIRE provides programs for people who have physical and cognitive disabilities, sensory impairments and psycho-social disorders. SIRE works with its clients to improve motor skills, balance and posture while stimulating the cardiovascular system and normalizing muscle tone. The client also experiences the three-dimensional movement of the horse, similar to a human’s gait, which is difficult to duplicate in a clinical setting.
