Friends Indeed
Sooo…SIRE has a lot of really great friends; people who volunteer with horses and riders, people who plan for SIRE for what will happen five years from now, people who share their lives with us and help us however they can. Every single day we are thankful for these people and their resources in our organization. Today I’m thinking in particular of Johnny and Jane Mancuso. Johnny is having an event at his Crossroads Harley-Davidson retail store called Wine, Cigars & Handlebars tomorrow (Saturday, Saturday 24 from 12 – 4), and a portion from the proceeds of his private label wine sales will be donated to SIRE. But that’s just a small indication of the bigger picture. Johnny and Jane ride at the RideAThon with us every year. They bring their horses and they camp out and make new friends even before the official part begins on Saturday morning!
Johnny was the featured ken-note speaker at SIRE’s 2010 Trailblazer Luncheon, sharing a bit of his story with SIRE. In March of 2011, Jane and Johnny opened their beautiful ranch to SIRE in order to host a kick-off event for SIRE’s Kentucky Derby gala. But sometimes we worry about them, as their ranch has twice been in the path of the destructive wildfires that area of the county has been plagued with. We pray for our good friends and their horses and animals, and they have been spared while opening their hearts to volunteers helping to save homes and the countryside. I really like these people, they are real and down-to-earth and both Jane and Johnny have hearts as big as Texas.
So if you want to see a some awesome motorcycles on Saturday, and maybe meet them and tell them about how much you appreciate what they do for SIRE and their community, stop on by the Crossroads store on 290 near Jones Road. But beware of the Bikini Bike Wash, I have a feeling that’s not for the faint of heart… :)
