February means Rodeo in Houston and to SIRE it means Top Hands. We spent the weekend of February 18th, 19th and 20th at the Reliant Center working hard to earn belt buckles, trophies and ribbons. We took a total of twelve horses from all three sites. We had an army of volunteers that helped set up tack rooms, our hospitality suite and dressing room. Our stalls were decorated with blue cloth and had wooden nameplates for each horse. Ft. Bend had six riders, Hockley had fifteen riders and Spring had fourteen riders for a total of thirty five riders from SIRE! They competed in fifty six classes that included Showmanship, Barrels, English and Western Equitation and Trail. Of course, we couldn’t have done this without our dedicated Sidewalkers, Leaders, DHP’s and all of the behind the scenes people that came out to Reliant and worked so hard for our riders. This year was especially exciting for us because DHL Industrial Projects sponsored SIRE and gifted us with a very nice donation. This allowed our volunteers to wear matching show T-shirts. We were also able to purchase western show shirts for our riders and western show blankets.
Our riders had a very successful weekend and brought home fourteen 1st place belt buckles, eighteen 2nd place ribbons, twenty four 3rd place ribbons, fourteen 4th place ribons, thirteen 5th place ribbons, five 6th place ribbons, three 7th place ribbons and six Honorable Mentions. SIRE riders earned ninety seven awards overall!
The following riders participated this year:
