A caravan from California to Florida is making a transcontinental horse-drawn journey as an outreach to injured and disabled veterans through visits and demonstrations at rehabilitation centers throughout the U.S. The caravan’s 2,800 mile journey is being document for a presentation at the Sundance Film Festival.
On Sunday January 18th from 12-2 the caravan will be in the Houston area and has selected SIRE’s Therapeutic Riding Center in Hockley as the stop for its demonstrations and filming.
The event will showcase SIRE’s Therapeutic Riding Center and Michael Muir with Access Adventure, leader of the caravan. Michael who is a United States World Champion Carriage Driver and President of the United States Driving for the Disabled will pair up with SIRE’s Derrick Perkins, a U.S. Air Force Veteran who was injured in 1988 while on active duty. Derrick began riding with SIRE – Houston Therapeutic Equestrian Centers program in 2008 and now is competing for a chance to represent the United States in the 2016 International Paralympic Games.
